Back on the Hill. Thanksgiving was dope. Good times with the fam. Back to school to do a group project for PR, rewrite my story, take two tests and do a paper in lieu of a PR final. Not terribly busy, but I'm not off the hook either.
You best come and find me if you want to get some time on the Couch before I go to Germany...
Five days 'til Honey... Holla.

This weekend was nice. The partying was a little much. AEPi's "Go to Hell DOOK!!" party was a rousing success - we raised a ton of cash (over 2k) because we had 1,000 people show up. The DTH party was the next night, and the newsroom inexplicably got beat by the backshop in our little contest. Good times the rest of the way. I got the Hofstra women's basketball coach to essentially say that she wanted to soil herself because her team was so bad.
I've had a good time the last two days... Not a whole lot of work - SPOSAT'S OVER! - and I've gotten to hang out with a ladyfriend from my freshman seminar who I only talk to online because we're both so busy all the time. It's been real nice to remember she's an actual person. Kinda wish it wasn't so late in the semester though. Going to Germany puts a damper on all these things.
I saw Two Gentlemen in Verona the last two days. It's a good production, and because they encourage audience participation, it was different enough both times. I love theater. I think I want to try playwriting for a while - it'd be cool to see something come off the page and into the world. For real.
Any case... Honey comes out a week from Friday. Who's hype? I am.

Yeah... so I finally took the chance to screw the DTH. It wasn't in any big way. I just didn't put the effort into this week's SpoSat outside of my own stuff. It started when I decided to go with 12 pages instead of 16. I could have gone up, and I'm pretty sure it would have been a fine issue that allowed me to go out with a bang. I potentially had two features from senior writers that would have been interesting and everyone would have gotten a great amount of space (including the underappreciated Mary Duby, who I've unintentionally screwed out of space three times now because I'm a big stupid jerk.)
But I got cautious and lazy. Little things got me nervous and I couldn't pull the trigger on jumping to 16. And then tonight, I bounced at 11:30. 11:30! If I've told you anything about how deadline days have gone this semester, that's a stunning time. Absolutely stunning. I told Elyse I was leaving and she was like, "Really?" I've read most of the copy and can do the cuts and stuff tomorrow, so I don't feel too bad.
Of course, I did spend the time off playing broomball in Cary with the boys. It was really cold playing as skins on ice and I'm sore and somehow managed to skin my knee, but I'll be damned if that wasn't a good-ass time. I got back and had to write my final case brief for PR, as well as a one-page assignment for fiction writing that turned into two, and I drank two frappaccinos to be able to do it and that's why I'm still up now, an hour after I finished (with some nice breaks in between.)
I just got through what may have been one of the most potentially stressful days ever and it really wasn't that bad. Well, the study abroad meeting was pretty painful. I could've not gone and known everything they said. Common sense I tell you. What else is the orientation program for when we get there? So it goes. I'm kind of nervous and hype all at the same time... Penny Lane-style - It's all happening.

The DTH is officially consuming my life. I spent the entire Sunday of what could have been an off-weekend writing tomorrow's front-page story on Sylvia Hatchell, as well as the Sports Monday column. (Which you're all going to read: DTH Online) SpoSat comes out this week, and I'm doing the cover story again, so I'm going to be MIA between now and Thursday night. I'm exhausted - to the point of not even wanting to go to sleep so I can make sure I relax.
But you know what? It's all worth it. I think I've figured out that this is what I want to do. Because to tell you the truth, if I didn't have to worry about class, this semester would be awesome. I spent all day in the office, and even though I'm tired as all hell, I didn't mind being there. I wrote a good-ass story. And I got to rant and be self-serving and blow off steam in my column. And I was greatly entertained for most of the day by everyone else on the desk.
We went in there this semester not having any idea what we were doing. Well, I didn't - Brian at least had one semester as an assistant. And I'll be damned if we haven't come together and whooped some ass. I'm proud of this semester. We've been on the front page enough to almost be part of the regular paper, we've written more enterprise stories than I can remember since I've been here and SpoSat has gotten better every issue.
So you know what? For all the crap I've gone through this semester with girls and class and deadlines, I could post all "c's" (Not gonna happen, if my mom's reading) and not have a single female friend and I'd still come away feeling good. And that's what it's all about, right? I care about what I do at the DTH. I hope I don't burn out, because this, this is a nice feeling. So it goes y'all. Catch you on the flip.

I think I live for when a girl falls asleep on me. That's my favorite. I'm such a big fan of the female form that I can stay up all night just taking a girl in. Listening to her breathe, playing with her hair, watching her sleep. It's a warm and fuzzy moment that renews my faith in the opposite sex.

Damn... I didn't mean to leave this hanging this long. Another week almost. My b, y'all. I been thinkin' all kinda craziness... I don't think my head's on straight. I gotta get right, and I don't know what it's gonna take. It's nothing to worry about. I just got spun and didn't stop in the right spot. Who knows? It'll be all good... I'm hype to go to Germany, I guess. And I did find out that I've got an interview for an internship this summer, which is definitely a good thing. Any case... I'm out.

So I left errybody hanging for a week. Sorry, kids. I was ridiculously busy sunday to wednesday, which resulted in me sleeping through Thursday. The weekend came, and it was dope. Well needed.
Friday was chill, with the AEPi Shabbat and date auction at NC Hillel. I was a little worried when the first five bids were all from guys, but i ended up goin for $23 to the wonderful Michelle Krebs, our local JCSC. Then I came back, and watched Mallrats with bunch of heads, including a few that had somehow managed to miss this fine film, which I've seen more times than I'm willing to admit.
Well, fine. 21. I think...
Saturday was nice and relaxed. I watched UNC football make me seem smart, because this week's SpoSat was themed "Running Game Revived," and hot damn, was it! Ronnie McGill put up more than 250 with 3 TDs. Yeah.
After that, I went to Curtis' 21st b-day party, which was aight, but weird cuz there were a lot of older people (in the 30-50 range), including dude's mom, which was straight awkward. I did get to chill with Camilla from the vball team, and she's good people, so it worked out. I bounced from there to Lauren Rauch's party which was dope. Maaaad people up in there when I got there at 2. Good times.
I went to the ACC women's soccer final in Cary today. UNC won 3-2 in a hard-fought game. They played like ass in the first half, but tied it up early in the second and dominated the rest of the way before Cat Reddick won it on a penalty kick. A good game to watch, even though it was ungodly amounts of cold. Check the full story on Tar Heel Blue, the official Web site of UNC athletics.
Any case, that's the weekly post. Well, except for the one heavy note, and I feel bad tacking this on at the end, but my uncle Mike was taken off life support this week after being in ICU for a week because of a car accident. My cousins live out in California, so I don't see them so often, and Uncle Mike was usually busy and not around when we were. But whenever he was, it was all love.
The thing I remember most is that he always looked well, like one of those people nothing could happen to. I mean, he was in such good physical shape that when he was brought in the doctors thought he was 40, even though he was in his mid-fifties. It hasn't really sunk in that he won't be around, but I know that the next time I see or talk to Aunt Doreen or Kristin, Robert or Ryan, I'm proly gonna break down. Having a dad taken isn't something any kid should have to deal with. I wouldn't even know what I'd do. I guess I'll just try and take advantage of what time I've got.
So Uncle Mike, this one's for you. I'll be saying kaddish every Friday - celebrating the fact that I knew you and got to have the time that I did. And to Aunt Do and the kids, I'm there if you need me, cuz I know you'd do the same. Love.

Ever been busy? I mean really busy. I'm there right now. Starting today, the only way I get free time is by procrastinating. There's stuff I should be doing right now. But I need time to relax or my head's gonna explode. Here's the breakdown:
It's a SpoSat week - I've got a column (done) and the cover story (not done), I'm not sure if my secondary feature is even a story, and I've got that 3 am minimum night (morning?) coming up on Wednesday. Then there's a speech to go to and article to write tomorrow for newswriting (sandwiched between DTH time and going to football practice), a J50 test Wednesday, and a group presentation tomorrow and a case brief due Thursday in PR.
Not to mention the persistently looming internship applications, laundry and social life. Everything feels like a deadline. I'm just glad I finished my short story. Which definitely wasn't short - 23 pages. So it goes, right?
At least we've got NBA League Pass.
Holla if you want some time on the Couch.
