Look! I made it big time: Couch, Packers agree to 1-year, $1.3M deal.
Okay, so maybe the Couch involved isn't me, but c'mon... I had you for a second there.
On a more serious note, I want to wish a rest in peace to Ralph Wiley, who died yesterday at 52. I can't say I agreed with everything the man said, but I did read enough of what he wrote to know that. That my friends, is the universal sign of recognizing a good writer. And I can't hate on a fellow basketball (and Knicks) junkie. He will be missed.

EXCLUSIVE!!
Here's something I've been meaning to link to for a while:
my never-published, intended for the DTH column on the German Soccer Experience.
I plan on continually plugging my column until every one of you (or at least enough that I've heard back from to satisfy me) has read it.
Enjoy (the column)!
P.S.
I found out that if you click this little number sign thing (below, next to posted by Ben Couch) you'll be able to post comments! Score. In the words of the immortal David Starsky, "Do It!"

Yea... so this NBA Finals is ridiculous so far. In the you need to be watching it kind of way. The Pistons upset in Game 1, Game 2 is about to enter OT after a monstrously clutch 3 by KB8. Again, you need to tune in. This is going to be a series, not a slaughter.
My job's starting to pick up speed. Today was orientation, so I met all the other interns (around 16 total). They seem to have potential, though they were all pretty quiet. The three ladies are all intriguing prospects.
The Mets drafted the last two days, and picked up a kid named Phillip Humber (pronounced "Hummer"), one of three heralded pitchers from Rice University with the No. 3 pick. He might make a cameo with the Cyclones, but we'll have to see. All in good time.

Yea... so this job with the Brooklyn Cyclones is a wee bit on the boring side. I spent today sitting around the office, counting names in a list and handing out pocket schedules. I'm not doing a lot of media relating. On the plus side, the Cyclones still have plenty of great seats still available! (See? I learned how to shill, at least.)
Been pretty chilled out otherwise. Playing a lot of NBA 2k2 (now ESPN Basketball) I don't have the new one the way I should, but that's because the Xbox is my brother's. And I was way short for cash until last week. Gotta love it when Wachovia hits you with a cumulative $26 service charge for using banks in Europe. Especially when you only had $20 left in your account. Party in a box right there, let me tell you.
I need to make the following shout-out for my own and my brother's sake: Degrassi: The Next Generation is awesome. It's an update of a Canadian teen drama that aired in the 1980s and was part of a throwaway exchange in Kevin Smith's Chasing Amy:
Holden - So, uh, what do you wanna do tonight?
Banky Edwards - Mmm, get a pizza, watch "Degrassi Jr. High."
Holden - You got a weird thing for Canadian melodrama.
Banky Edwards -: I got a weird thing for girls who say "aboot."
Any case, my bro turned me on to the show (which airs on the N!, a Nickelodeon digital cable channel for teens. The thing that gets me is that this is BY FAR the most accurate depiction of high school ever to hit the small screen. The dialogue is incredible, issues don't wrap up in an episode and they have repercussions that last through the show's continuity.
On a recent episode, one of the characters copped out of a field hockey (Canadian, remember?) practice because "[She was] on [her] period." Another responded, "We don't let a monthly visitor make excuses on this team." I mean, are you kidding me?? That's absolutley fantastic! I don't think the word period was even thought by the characters on Saved by the Bell. Degrassi. Watch it.

Two things I wanted to get off my chest:
P.S.
Fitting unpolished story: Tinted Visions (A BC original composition, NC-17)
Fitting song: Avril Lavigne - Take Me Away
- Don't do things you know are 75% chance bad idea, 20% could be normal and 5% possibility for good idea. Not worth it. It feels like you've been cheated afterwards.
WARNING: Girls won't agree with this. - Guys and girls don't become friends unless the sexual relationship doesn't work out and the rejected party deems the other person too cool to give up. Some exceptions apply - Inquire within.
