So I had a nice 5+ hour bus ride back from the city, and with sleepy eyes and low lighting, decided to vibe with the iPod instead of reading. I took advantage of the time available and threw on 2Pac's double-album, All Eyez on Me, intending to listen start to finish. But, shortly into Book 2, I was froze in my tracks by some of the most blatant beat jacking I had heard in a minute. I knew - KNEW - I had heard that beat, heard it fairly recently and that it came from a song that wasn't obscure. Check out "Shorty Wanna Be a Thug" and see if you can hear it:

You name that tune? Would it be ... Kanye West and Paul Wall smash single "Drive Slow," perhaps?

Wow. Kanye's supposed to be one of the preeminent producers of this decade, and he straight up JACKED a 10-year-old beat. This isn't even like flipping a sample differently - all he did was slow it down. I call bullshit, 'Ye. Man up and do yours.
